In this slice-of-life comedy, we become introduced to Tatsu, a yakuza boss who retires from a life of crime to become a househusband to support his careerwoman wife, Miku. Each episode of this anime displays comedic scenarios of Tatsu’s seemingly normal domestic work juxtaposing against his intimidating personality and crime boss background.
What makes Way of the Househusband quite wholesome is how Tatsu undyingly supports Miku and her interests such as getting her merchandise of any magical girl anime she’s fond of and watching it together with her. Tatsu also helps his neighbors with their problems and does it with a lot of kindness and flair.
Kotaro Lives Alone
Trying to make it out there as a manga artist, Shin Karino deals with his daily problems of deadlines, artist’s block, and frequent back pain. However, his life takes a turn upon meeting the four-year-old Kotaro, who’s become his new neighbor in their apartment. Kotaro seems to pay his own bills, make his own food, and is more than capable than your average kindergartener. Kotaro Lives Alone brings to viewers what it means to find a family through the eyes of a child and his daily adventures in the real world. Â
There’s a lot of heart and charm in this anime as viewers get to see Shin learning to become a guardian to watch over Kotaro despite the latter’s maturity. Aside from that, the anime can offer you something heartfelt with the unraveling of Kotaro’s backstory.Â
Gudetama: An eggcellent adventure
You may have heard of the iconic Gudetama, the famous egg character by Sanrio. He has his own series now which packs a lot of comfort and fun for viewers. This live-action CG animation hybrid series features Gudetama’s adventure to find his mother. With the help of Shakipiyo, a newly-hatched chick, the duo traverses the world in an *egg-citing* adventure.
An interesting thing about this series is how Gudetama and Shakipiyo interact with humans and fellow food creatures. Each creature is animated so well and has unique personalities that contrast Gudetama’s laziness and Shakipiyo’s optimism. It’s a light watch for each 10-17-minute episode and it builds up quite well story-wise.
Komi Can’t Communicate
New to her high school, Shouko Komi immediately receives overwhelming popularity due to her stoic beauty and elegance. However, only Hitohito Tadano, an average classmate of hers discovers that Komi has a communication disorder, making it difficult for Komi to communicate and make friends. Tadano then helps Komi reach her goal of making 100 friends at their school.
Every episode of this anime shows Komi’s struggles and her development in communicating with her classmates and befriending them. The story’s comforting atmosphere is sure to put a huge smile on your face with every episode. Plus, you’ll feel the kilig on Komi’s journey to discovering her budding romantic feelings too.Â
HorimiyaÂ
More of a romantic comedy, Horimiya follows Kyoko Hori, a bright and popular student. However, Hori is secretly a homebody who dresses down and looks after her younger brother which is something she hides from her classmates. After Hori’s younger brother comes home with a nosebleed, Hori meets Izumi Miyamura, a boy with numerous piercings and tattoos who Hori recognizes as her classmate, After recognizing each other, the duo agree to keep their secret identities concealed and learn more about each other, eventually becoming closer than ever.Â
Horimiya focuses more on how Hori and Miyamura communicate and understand each other despite their seemingly different personalities. The character growth of these two is certainly one to watch as they discover a lot about themselves and try to become more open with their secret identities.Â
Ouran High School Host Club
A classic 2000s anime, Ouran High School Host Club revolves around the extraordinary life of Haruhi Fujioka, a scholar at the prestigious Ouran Academy. After breaking an expensive antique vase in a music room, Haruhi must work off her debt as a host at the academy’s Host Club, disguising herself as a male student to entertain female students with themed parties and food.Â
Each episode follows the crazy antics of the host club and Haruhi discovers there’s more to each member than what meets the eye. The show packs a lot of fun with each episode and it’s definitely a show to rewatch too for those already familiar with the anime.
