Since quarantine restrictions had to be enforced due to the COVID019 pandemic, the world of collegiate sports halted and the widely anticipated UAAP games was abruptly canceled mid-season.
Months after, UAAP's broadcast partner ABS-CBN was faced with an internationally publicized shutdown after lawmakers voted against the renewal of its franchise. On October 23, however, the UAAP has issued an official statement regarding a new broadcasting partnership with Cignal TV. The news sparked hopes that the collegiate sports league would make a comeback soon.
While college sports fans and athletes alike wait for official news regarding UAAP's return, let's have a look back at some of the courtisde casters that have been with us through our teams' wins and losses throughout the years:
Rain Matienzo - AdU
Rain Matienzo became Adamson University’s courtside reporter for Season 82. Now, Rain is a TikTok-famous content creator best known for her conyo girl POVs. She’s also currently taking up Broadcast Communication at UP Diliman.
Jaz Reyes - ADMU
Jaz was Ateneo de Manila’s courtside reporter for Season 74. Now, she’s a radio DJ for Play FM, an events host, and also a content creator who makes ultra creative self-portraits on her Instagram.
Bea Escudero - DLSU
Bea started out as the Green Archers’ courtside reporter for Season 79. Now, she’s taken on the job full-time for the PBA and NBA TV.
Andi Manzano - FEU
You may know Andi as a DJ for Magic 89.9, but her hosting skills were tested way back in college when she became the courtside reporter of Far Eastern University for Season 70. Now, Andi is happily married and has two adorable kids, Olivia and Amelia.
Tricia Robredo - NU
Tricia may be an Atenean, but she served as National University’s courtside sportscaster for Season 76. Now, Tricia is a full-fledged doctor and holds MD-MBA degrees after graduating from Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health.
Sydney Crespo - UE
Sydney Crespo was University of the East’s courtisde reporter back in Season 80. She has since graduated from the collegiate league and is now a courtside reporter for ABL and MPBL.
Trish Roque - UP
Patricia Ann Roque has been in front of the camera ever since she was a child. In college, Patricia became the courtside reporter for UP during UAAP’s 71st season. Now, Patricia is busy with many things, from being a host, a writer, and an actress.
Tina Marasigan - UST
Tina has been a beauty queen even before she assumed the role of UST’s courtside reporter in Season 74. Now, she is a well-known journalist and news anchor for ABS-CBN.
