It's common for many people to assume that the best universities in the country are only in Metro Manila. Contrary to popular belief, however, there are still plenty of excellent options outside the NCR. For example, Visayas State University is a Leyte-based institution that aims to provide world-class education in the field of science and technology. The globally competitive university has built a pristine reputation on the success of their graduates and their countless school achievements, from being the Lead Institution of the Visayas Consortium of Agricultural Resources Program in 1978 to receiving two Tanglaw Awards from the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources Research and Development. The university's total land area of 1,099.4 hectares is flanked by a stunning mountain range and the Camotes Sea, making it one of the beautiful campuses in the country.

Sounds a lot like your dream school? Here's everything you need to know before sending in your application to Visayas State University:

History of Visayas State University

Visayas State University was first founded as a Jesuit institution called Colegio de San Ildefonso. After separating from its seminary in 1948, the college eventually acquired its university status and established five campuses in Cebu City and offered a wide range of courses under seven different schools. In 1924, the university was established as the Baybay Agricultural School in line with a Provincial Board Resolution. It was then renamed to Baybay National Agricultural School when the Commonwealth Act No. 313 was passed over a decade later. The institution continued to undergo numerous name modifications due to ever-changing government policies until it was finally converted into the Visayas State College of Agriculture through a Presidential Decree in 1974. More than 20 years later, four more HEIs were integrated into the college to create a five-campus system in Leyte. With the approval of Republic Act No. 9437, the college was officially referred to as the Visayas State University from 2007 onwards. From there, the government developed two more Zonal Agricultural Universities in Mindanao and central Luzon to complement Visayas State University's thrust for accessible education.
