With isolation and social distancing taking over the new normal, emojis are among the many tools that help convey warmth and emotions in digital conversations.
And the majority of global emoji users agree: those cute little icons spark empathy and make you more relatable.
Some 88% of emoji users are more likely to feel empathic towards someone if they use the cute icons according to the 2021 Global Trend Emoji Report. Around 90% of users agree that emojis make it easier for them to express themselves.
Emojis take the steam off difficult conversations online and can help avoid misunderstandings. Often, chats appear awkward or "dry" without seeing the emotions of the other person but emojis can lessen the tension and lighten the conversation.
Based on the emoji trend report, 67% of those who use the cute icons are viewed as friendlier, funnier, and cooler than those who don’t. More than half of emoji users also agree that using the icons in communications has positively impacted their mental health.
"Emojis help us express our emotions and make us feel more connected to others," the report stated.
Emojis help with language barriers too with 89% of users agreeing that their use makes it easier for them to communicate across different languages.
So the next time you're sending a message, try to include an emoji -- it could help make the conversation lighter.
