JD Cagulangan wasn't even born the last time the University of the Philippines lifted the trophy.

Yet it was the steady guard who turned out to be the savior the Diliman side has long been looking for, draining the game-winning three with 0.5 seconds left as the Fighting Maroons realized a 36-year dream with a memorable 72-69 Game Three overtime triumph over the powerhouse defending champion Ateneo Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The victory ended decades of heartbreak for UP which had to endure years in the cellar, including winningless seasons.

But all those pains were erased as this dream season completed the more than three-decade odyssey for the Fighting Maroons.
