Li Ao is an 18-year-old Chinese whose parents admitted him to an internet addiction treatment center because of his extreme usage of the internet. He was supposed to stay for six months, in which he had to attend counseling and do some physical exercises, among other things.

Just two days in, his parents received a phone call informing them that Li had passed away while in the hospital. Apparently, he had 20 external injuries and a lot of internal ones, too. The treatment center is still being investigated on.

This isn't the first time that a teenager has been admitted to a treatment center due to internet addiction. In fact, doctors consider this a legit concern with different effects on its victims. While there are no known cases like this in the Philippines yet, it's best to be aware that such a thing exists and be mindful of the way you are using the internet, especially when it starts controlling you instead of the other way around.
