We've seen the teen queen Kathryn Bernardo grow up on television; from being on Goin' Bulilit, to becoming Super Inggo's Maya, She's Dating the Gangster's Athena, and PSY's Yna Macaspac. This month, in time for the Teen Queen's 20th birthday, she shares a bigger piece of her life with all of us through her book Everyday Kath. The Teen Queen tells Candy a little about her book, what her fans should look forward to, her inspiration in writing Everyday Kath, and more.
- Tell us about your book. What do your fans expect to see in it?
Kath: They'll see my hipster side like Shaira! 'Yung book, very fun siya. I really had fun shooting it. It's very personal. Sobrang excited ako, kasi more than a year na namin siya pina-plan. Supposedly last year kasi, pero nakulangan sa time. This year, we'll launch it for my 20th birthday. My first ever book—a dream come true. 'Yung feel niya very young and relatable. Merong mga tips on styling, makeup, and hair. I also get to share my experiences, so it's all in one. Mas makikilala nila ako, and may matutunan sila once they read the book.
- What is your biggest inspiration in writing this book?
Kath: My fans. Kasi naisip namin kung ano yung puedeng gift sa mga fans ko na hindi ko pa nagagawa. Kasi pag mall show, nagpeperform, parati na naman nilang nakikita yon. We want [to give them] something they can keep. 'Yung talagang mafefeel nila na part sila nun. Kasi feeling ko pag may idol ako at bumili ako ng book nila, and natapos ko, kilala ko na siya, kasi nandun lahat. Iba kasi pag nakikita mo yung pictures, yung hawak talaga nila mismo. It's for the fans, and sa mga young at heart, sa mga may insecurities, or sa mga may questions about fashion or anything. I want to share my other side through this book. I think the book is the perfect idea for my birthday.
- If you weren't in showbiz, what would you be doing now?
Kath: Maybe nagaapprentice kay Ate Den or Shaira. Gusto ko kasi mag-makeup artist and mag-aral ng photography and baking. Kung 'di ako artista, marami akong tine-take na lessons, 'yung mga short courses.
Fun fact: Ate Den/Denise Ochoa is Kath's makeup artist, and Shaira Luna was Kath's photographer for Everyday Kath.
- What's the biggest piece of advice you could give to teens who look up to you?
Kath: Enjoy your youth. Enjoy being young, kasi yun yung narealize ko ngayon eh. Ayokong may regrets ako. Yung after how many years, magtataka ako bat di ko ginawa? So, make the most out of it. Have fun, but of course with limitations. But wag parati dun sa safe side, lumabas ka dun sa comfort zone mo. Magugulat ka kasi mas mag-e-enjoy ka sa mga unexpected things.
