Our body burns calories by itself even when we sleep, but there are certain things we do that slow our fat-burning process. Here's a list of habits that we should stop doing!
- You've completely cut out your carbs.
Every person who wants to lose weight knows that you need to cut on carbs to shed off fat, but you shouldn't cut it out entirely! Especially when we do physical activities, we require some of it for energy. When you don't consume your body's carb requirement, you'll eventually burn fewer calories during any workout because it won't require as much energy to recover. Instead of removing carbs from your diet, measure your servings during each meal and make sure it's just at the size of your palm. (via Prevention.com)
- You're not getting enough dairy.
Calcium deficiency is common among women and some evidences point that this slows the metabolism. Treat dairy as your friend and go for fat-free milk or low-fat yogurt. Consuming the right amount may also help your body reduce fat absorption. (via Prevention.com)
- Eating too little.
When you eat too little or skip your meals, your body switches to starvation mode and slows your metabolism in order to conserve energy. This causes your body to let fat sleep on your body as you accumulate more of it, even if it's little by little. Remember to eat as often as possible, but in the right amount, aligning it with your energy requirements. (via PreventDisease.com)
- Depriving yourself of sleep.
You can't get anything beneficial (health-wise) when you lack sleep. A study conducted in 2012 proved that people who sleep less have no energy to move at all the next day, causing their bodies to slow down its fat-burning capacity even when at rest. (via womenshealthmag.com)
- Drinking too much caffeine.
Caffeine may boost your metabolism when you drink it in the morning, but nutritionist Amy Shapiro says that drinking too much coffee within the day can actually backfire and make you store more fat. (via EatThis.com)
- Sitting all day.
When you sit too long for a day, the muscles you developed working out breaks down. It slows your resting metabolism and makes it harder for you to reach your ideal weight easily. The quick fix to this is that you get up and walk at least two minutes every hour. It'll certainly make a difference. (via EatThis.com)
- Eating refined carbs.
The body works hard to break down carbs when it is complex. Because white bread, pasta, and rice aren't complex, it breaks down easily because they have been refined, resulting in a slower metabolism. This type of carbohydrate has no nutritional value to them, so opt for whole wheat bread and pasta, or brown rice. It's healthier and could promote weight loss. (via EatThis.com)
