In a video press presentation given by Sony's lead system architect for the Play Station 5Mark Cerny, gamers were given a blow-by-blow on the specs and hardware details of the PS5, which is set to be released later in 2020.

While most of the announcements were directed at game developers (the video was a last-minute alternative to the postponed Game Developers Conference 2020 due to COVID-19), gamers themselves were excited to know that the PS5 promises streaming and loading times 100x faster than the PS4, thanks to the addition of an extremely efficient custom Solid State Drive (SSD).

Despite this drastic change, however, PS4 owners need not worry about their collections going to waste as Cerny assured that the soon-to-be released console will be backwards-compatible, at least for most of your favorite games.

"Running PS4 and PS4 titles at boosted frequencies has also added complexity," says Cerny. "The boost is truly massive this time around and some game code can't handle it. Testing has to be done on a title-by-title basis. Results are excellent, though. We recently took a look at the top 100 PlayStation 4 titles as ranked by playtime, and we're expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch on PlayStation 5.
