Your favorite K-dramas are best paired with Korean snacks in hand, maybe a bottle of soju. But have you ever wondered just how many calories there are in your favorite bottle of Korean alcohol?
Soju is a popular South Korean distilled spirit made from rice and other types of grains and is one of the best-selling liquor in the world. Most soju brands, like Lotte's Chumchurum and Hite Jinro, have around 16 to 20 percent ABV. When it comes to calories, soju also seems to pack a punch.
To give us a picture of the calorie count of soju, we checked fitness apps that allow you log in every kind of food you consume in a day to keep track of your calorie intake. According to FitBit and MyFitnessPal, a shot of soju has around 64 calories. A 360-mL bottle of soju can make around seven shots, which means that a bottle has roughly 448 calories in it.Â
In comparison to Pinoys' ever favorite kanin, one cup of rice has approximately 200 calories. For every bottle of soju we consume, we're getting around two cups' worth of rice. For some, that's a price they're willing to pay to get some soju goodness (Still, drink moderately!).
