Another year has come and gone—can you believe it? It’s time to pop the champagne, grab your 2023 planner, and get going on your new year’s resolution. Keeping one all year may seem nearly impossible, but the key is to find a ~feasible~ objective that eases you into becoming your best self. Yup, that means trading in those unrealistic goals for sensible self-care routines that you can practice on the daily.
Coming up blank on ideas? To help you out, we’ve listed a few realistic new year’s resolutions to make 2023 your official self-care era:
1. Stick to a simple skincare routine.
At the end of a long day, take some time to relax by doing a simple skincare routine. Just a simple one with the bare essentials will do—no fancy products necessary!
2. Read for at least five minutes every day.
Reading more is a common new year’s resolution, but it’s usually left unfulfilled because of how intimidating it is to actually start reading. Overcome that fear and start off by reading for at least five minutes every day. Eventually, you’ll get hooked on an interesting book that you can willingly read for hours on end!
3. Exercise once a week.
Again, this is another common resolution that many give up on after a few days. Instead of pressuring yourself to do intense one-hour workouts every day, encourage yourself to do any kind of physical activity once a week. It’s also important to find a kind of exercise you actually enjoy, whether that’s taking morning jogs in your village or sweating it out on the treadmill.
4. Start a gratitude journal.
It’s always a good practice to remember the things you’re thankful for on a regular basis. Since we usually tend to dwell on negativity, start a gratitude journal that you can use in between your daily tasks.
5. Compliment someone every day.
As simple as they may be, compliments will go a long way in boosting someone’s confidence and brightening another person’s day. Plus, it’s also an easy way to strengthen your relationships and find new friends!
6. Set a bedtime alarm.
We’ve all heard of morning alarms, but do yourself a favor and set a bedtime alarm as well! That way, you can catch up on some shuteye and bid those morning migraines goodbye.
7. Turn off your phone notifications an hour before sleeping.
Apart from sleeping early, it’s also a must to actually sleep decently. Our tip is to keep your phone on silent an hour before sleeping so you can go to bed without those incessant after-hours emails.
