Various areas around the country are under a lockdown as we battle COVID-19. Many of our kababayans are without jobs, unsure of where to get money to spend for daily needs. Government efforts like the supplemental social amelioration program (SAPs) are in place, but they’re not enough to sustain families in the long run.
Food delivery service FoodPanda reached out to the local government of Pasig City to launch PandaTODA which aims to provide jobs as partner riders to tricycle drivers in Pasig City. “One of the sectors that are really affected by this crisis is our tricycle drivers,” says Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto in a press release. “In Pasig we have over 13,000 tricycle drivers. All of them have been hit by this crisis and a lot of them don't know where to get their next meal from. With the help of foodpanda, we will be able to help hundreds of tricycle drivers who have no source of income right now.”
Under the program, 500 tricycle drivers will be recruited as partner riders and trained to practice safety protocols and contactless food delivery system. They also will be given the option to keep the job with FoodPanda even after ECQ ends in Pasig.
Aside from initiating the partnership, FoodPanda also currently offers free delivery during the entire month of May to help those at home get easier access to the food establishments currently open under ECQ.
