“It has been a customary to the City Government of Pasig to provide various types of assistance, particularly to public school students to actualize its desire to help young Pasiguenos to achieve their educational goals,” read the resolution.

In August 2019, Pasig City also awarded 110 city scholars with cash incentives for graduating with Latin honors. Summa cum laude graduating students will receive Php30,000. Magna cum laude students will get Php25,000, and graduating cum laude students are entitled to Php20,000.

"I hope these incentives will also motivate the next batches to study harder," Sotto said. "Hindi po ito pondo ng pulitiko, pondo ito ng taong bayan," he stressed, encouraging the graduates to give back to the local community.

Giving cash gifts for graduating students with honors is with the Local Government Code of 1991. Aside from giving graduating students certificates of completion, school authorities should also give “medals of distinction and other incentives to graduating students who distinguished themselves in their academic work.”

This year, Pasig City will allot Php400 million for their scholarship program, so that more students can have free tuition and higher incentives.
