On June 19, 1965, the public university was founded by the Philippine Congress through Republic Act No. 4196 or “An Act Authorizing the City of Manila to Establish and Operate the University of City of Manila.” As a matter of fact, it is the only chartered and autonomous university funded by the government. Its noble name came from the Filipino term “pantas,” which refers to a wise person.
The campus is situated in the historic walls of Intramuros, which also used to be the same site for other prestigious universities such as the Universidad de San Ignacio (1590-1798) and Ateneo de Municipal de Manila (1865-1901). PLM has stood the test of time and continues to give the best education possible to brilliant minds from all walks of life.
