Of all the things new years bring, fresh and clean slates are one of the best. At the beginning of a new year, you’re faced with 365 days of new opportunities and more chances to be the best version of yourself you can possibly imagine. At the same time, however, it can also be quite daunting… what if you don’t end up living up to any of it, or what if you mess up just one week into the year?

However daunting the possibility of messing upas all humans inevitably doshouldn’t stop you from at least trying to envision your goals enough for them to look possible. This year, we’re helping you truly write these goals into existence by being both realistic and immensely hopeful.

The first thing one must remember when envisioning new year’s resolutions is its specificity, attainability, and personality. To keep it simple, the template below considers an acronym to remember—S.M.A.R.T: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound. With these five factors keeping each of our goals in place, we can remain realistic with what we achieve in glorious 2022.

When you’re ready, find a quiet place to write these goals down and truly reflect how much their success would mean to you, and whatever gratitude you hold for all that you went through and how much you’ve grown in the past year. If it helps, light a candle, burn some incense, or try a new scent on your humidifier! Make sure your space is safe and sacred to you.

New Year's Resolution Template

In 2022, I intend to [insert specific goal here]. I want to attain this goal because [reason]. With this in mind, I will live intentionally and gracefully in a direction that breathes life into this new year’s resolution, refusing any path or pattern that may prevent me from achieving it. With this in mind, I will be able to measure the direction of this goal through [what metric can you use to ensure you’re on the right track?], so that by [time you intend to either fully incorporate the goal in your lifestyle, or achieve the goal completely], I will have attained [insert specific goal again!]

Remember to rest

Setting new resolutions at the beginning of a new year can be exciting and hopeful, but one of the most important things that comes with seeing these goals and these resolutions through is remembering to put ourselves first. When we honor our intuition and stay in tune with our bodies by resting when we need to, we honor all versions of ourselves.

As much as intentions are always good to stay on track, reflection and gratitude are always safety nets for when things don’t quite go the way we want them to. And even if they don’t, keep this in mind all throughout 2022: we are always exactly where we need to be.
