A couple’s island backpacking hobby has led them to create Siklo Pilipinas, a waterproof bag brand that advocates for an eco-ethical lifestyle.
Siklo Pilipinas was first created because owners Clarice and Lyndon Ecuacion, who frequently went on island adventures, were concerned about how to protect their gadgets from natural elements. Because of that, Lyndon came up with the upcycled inner tube tire rubber material that they could fashion into bags for their trips.
The material is a smart and sustainable solution to the country’s garbage problem as it uses up car tires that have worn out. Currently, Siklo Pilipinas has upcycled over 26 tons of discarded inner tubes.Â
Clarice Lyndon says that their love for the environment and nature gives them the strength to make the business work. “This is not about monetary gain, this is our passion… our lifestyle," she says.
While the couple first made it for their trips, Siklo Pilipinas’ diverse bag designs can fit into anyone’s lifestyle now. Their prices range from P950 to P7,500.
