Set in 1987, the fourth episode of the third season of Black Mirror follows Yorkie, an introverted young woman who visits the “party town” San Junipero. There, she meets Kelly, an outgoing party girl. Together, they uncover truths about each other and the mystery behind the fun town.
3. The Handmaiden (2016)
This film can be considered a cult classic by almost everyone who watched the journey of the two main characters. Sook Hee, a young woman who is a pickpocket, is hired by a con man to become heiress Lady Hideko’s handmaiden and be a part of the big fraud set to steal all of the heiress’ wealth. As they spend their time together, Sook Hee and Lady Hideko develop feelings for each other.
4. Fear Street Trilogy (2021)
This horror trilogy shows the life of Deena and her friends in the town called Shadyside. As the story unfolds, they discover that their town is cursed and it’s up to them to save their homes. As Deena struggles to save lives, she also navigates her love-and-hate relationship with ex-lover Sam.
5. Billie and Emma (2018)
This Filipino film is set in the mid-1990s and follows teenage girl Billie as she transfers to a Catholic all-girls school in a remote town. There, she meets the popular and stellar student Emma. After being assigned as partners for a school project, their lives suddenly get intertwined. As the two enjoy their time going through the joys of their newfound love, Emma finds out she is pregnant with her boyfriend, Miguel, which further complicates the search for her true identity.
