An answer to your "gutom pa rin ako" woes.

When we feel hungry, the first thing we do is eat, but according to weight-loss specialist and board-certified internist Dr. Sue Decotiis, we should be more watchful of what we put in our bodies.

"Hunger is a result of many complex interactions that occur in the stomach, intestines, brain, pancreas, and bloodstream," and there are types of food that make you hungrier instead of actually satisfying your cravings.

Amongst the kinds of food that make you hungrier are the salty ones. According to a new study from the Max Delbrûck Center for Molecular Medicine in Germany and Vanderbilt University, "salt triggers a process in the kidneys that retains water and requires energy that in turn makes you hungry" which in return makes you eat more and drink less.

Another downside to loving salty food is that it also increases your sugar intake. Mitzi Dulan, registered dietician and author of The Pinterest Diet: How to Pin Your Way Thin says it's normal to have a sweet craving after munching on something salty since "your taste buds and brain link fast-acting energy with sweet foods," but don't get carried away, because this means not only are you packing calories from salty food, you're also consuming a different set of calories from the sugary ones.

Here are other kinds of food that can cause an increase in your appetite which can later on result to weight gain:

Admittedly, cutting back on sugar and salt can be quite difficult (can you imagine saying no to free fries and cake?) but it's important to be mindful of your lifestyle. Are you making the right choices when it comes to your diet? Are you doing your best to work out, not for your figure, but for your health? These questions may be hard to answer with an honest heart but doing so will be best for you to start setting realistic goals. Eating right isn't just about weight loss, it's about giving your body the nutrients it needs to keep you running! Always remember to take care of yourself first, ladies!
