These days, we're on our phones almost 24/7. We rely on our trusty mobile devices for literally everything, from buying our essentials to catching up on our favorite TV series. Because our lives are practically stored on our phones, it pays to be extra mindful of what happens on it and how our data is being used by our go-to apps and websites.

Recently, Apple released an update for its iOS to address a security concern related to how apps utilize an iOS user's information. One notable feature of the iOS 14.5 update is the App Tracking Transparency feature, which allows users to have control over which apps can access and use their data and for what purpose. Apple users can opt out of having apps track their behavior and activities for personalizing ads.

While this is definitely good news for Apple enthusiasts, it's obviously only exclusive to those with Apple products. But don't worry, if you are a loyal Android user who wants the same privacy feature, you don't need to switch and buy a brand new device to achieve the same result. There is also a way for Android users to choose not to let Google track their activities for targeted ads.

How to stop apps from tracking your activity on Android:

Enabling this is pretty simple. To enable this feature, all you have to do is to go to Settings, and from there, select Google. Then click Ads and turn on the "Opt out of ads personalization" feature. This will stop apps on your movile device from using your advertising ID to create profiles or targeted ads.

According to Google, your advertising ID is a "unique, user-resettable ID for advertising." As part of Google's update which will be implemented in late 2021, anyone who attempts to access this ID will instead receive a string of zeros, that is, if you chose to opt out of letting apps use this ID to create personalized ads for you.
