Admit it or not, heart-wrenching romance films and shows will always have an everlasting impact on us. While their tragic tales might send us into a slump, we just couldn’t help but enjoy films that depict the history between two lovers from falling in love to coping with heartbreak or loss later on. No wonder why 20th Century Girl, a film starring Kim Yoo Jung, Byeon Woo Seok, Roh Yoon Seo, and Park Jung Woo, is one of the most-loved South Korean films these days.
The film tells the story of Na Bo Ra (Kim Yoo Jung) and her trip down memory lane when her father receives a parcel for her containing a VHS tape and an invitation to an art exhibit. It reminded her of youth and her willingness to do anything for the sake of her terminally ill best friend, Kim Yeon Du (Roh Yoon Seo)–she even suppresses her feelings for Poong Won Ho (Byeon Woo Seok) upon learning that he’s the guy her best friend likes. Despite both of their best friends’ efforts, Na Bo Ra and Poong Wo Ho’s love story left us with a bitter pill to swallow: some good things come to an end.
