Nine out of 10 children (age 10) in the Philippines cannot read, much less comprehend a simple text, according to the latest report by The World Bank, The State of Global Learning Poverty: 2022 Update. With this alarming news about illiteracy and lack of access to education, various groups are making an effort to make reading more accessible to the public. Take for example the Rotaract Club of Antipolo East, which launched the Book Nook in Antipolo, Rizal right beside Sumulong Park and Antipolo Cathedral.

"As we enter 2023, there is still the need to promote education for all ages, regardless of one's social status. The community book nook does so provide this as it enables and encourages individuals to read freely," the Rotaract Club of Antipolo East said about their launch of the Book Nook, which came into fruition in December 2022.
How to Use the Antipolo Book Nook
The Book Nook operates like an honesty store. "Inaasahan pong isasauli o papalitan ang mga librong kukunin, honesty is the best policy," according to the list of Community Book Nook Rules posted on one of the shelves.

Anyone—Antipolo residents or not—can borrow a book for reading at the Nook or at the Park. If you wish to take home a book, you have to donate another. Book donations are also welcome through the donation box inside the Nook.
