Being fit doesn't just mean slipping into those skinny jeans without a hitch, or having abs to rival Jessica Biel's. It can also mean having the right mix of salads and sweets, or knowing hot to snack without adding on the pounds. Whether it's toning up the way you look or eating the right kind of foods, putting fitness first on your agenda equals a healthier, happier, better you.

FOCUS ON FOOD GROUPS

Fad diets that promise to help you lose inches fast are all about restrictions—eating just fruit or sticking to proteins. They're fads because in the long run, they don't work. Our bodies need a variety of nutrients from all the food groups to function properly. Your meals should consist of a balance of fruits, veggies, grains, meat and beans, milk, and oils. Just 'cause you're only eating salads, doesn't mean you're healthy eater—you've got to mix in all the other good stuff to ensure your body's getting the nutrition it deserves and needs.

If you think going on a hunger strike will help you get rid of fab, it won't. If you don't take in the right number of calories every day, chances are, you're losing muscle, which isn't good. REMEMBER: There isn't just ONE pathway to fitness. Staying fit means taking all pathways—you can't work out at the gym without the proper diet or train for your sport without taking in the right number of calories. The way to being healthy is to take all paths together. So keep your chin up, get your energy pumping, and eat and exercise your way to a healthier you!
