Know Your Enemy
In this case, what you don't know CAN hurt you.
- Flu is from the word influenza. It is a respiratory disease caused by viruses.
- The flu can be life threatening for elderly people, newborn babies, and people with certain chronic illnesses.
- The flu is an airborne virus. You can get it if someone infected sneezes around you.
- You can also get it by touching a doorknob or a telephone that has been held by a person with the flu.
- Crowded places such as schools and tiangges are excellent breeding grounds for this virus.
Treat Me Right
Treatments recommended by doctors and moms:
- Bed rest.
- Drink lots of fluids such as orange or calamansi juice.
- Ask your doctor for antiviral medicine. (Remember, viruses cause the flu. Antibiotics won't solve anything since they mainly work on bacterial infections.)
- Take the medicine within 48 hours after the flu starts. This shortens the length of time of the fever and other symptoms to enable you to go back to your daily routine.
