History of the Far Eastern University
Dr. Nicanor Reyes founded the Far Eastern University in 1928, through the help of educators from the University of the Philippines’ Department of Economics. It began as an Institute of Accountancy and offered a three-year program that would prepare students for the certified public accountant examination. The learning institute continued to fill its students’ needs and it became the Institute of Accounts, Business and Finance a year later. The year 1933 was pivotal for the university as it saw the partnership of the IABF and the Far Eastern College, which offered courses in liberal arts. Dr. Reyes remained the university's president through the ‘30s and ‘40s.
“In addition to academic excellence, the university strives to impart a well-rounded education by providing alternatives to students,” the university website says. The university has since expanded to offer programs for the arts and sciences, architecture, fine arts, education, engineering, law, nursing, medicine, and more. It now runs five campuses across Metro Manila and in Cavite, educating students from elementary school to graduate school.
