Tired of having to jump from Messenger to your Instagram DMs just to talk to your friends or colleagues? Well, you’ll soon finally be able to skip the hassle as Facebook just made a significant announcement today: They’ll finally be merging two of their biggest messaging platforms!
So what does that mean exactly? As far as cross-platform messaging goes, Instagram users will soon be allowed to send private messages to Facebook users via IG direct, and vice versa!
“We've been working on this since I shared our vision for a privacy-focused social network early last year. Private messaging is one of the fastest-growing forms of communication, and on Facebook's apps alone people send over 100 billion messages every day,” Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg explains. “We've heard from people that your conversations get fragmented across different apps, and it's not always easy to know where to reach someone or where to find a certain chat thread. So we're connecting the Messenger and Instagram experience so you can easily connect with the people you want across apps.”
But wait, apparently there’s more! As an addition to integrating the Messenger experience onto Instagram, users can also expect 10 new features on the app. This includes chat colors, selfie stickers, emoji reactions, vanishing messages, and perhaps the one we’re most excited about, the introduction of Messenger’s Watch Together feature. With this upcoming innovation, users can soon watch videos from IGTV and Facebook Watch together with their friends during a video call.
As per CNN, Facebook is currently testing the new features on select markets, but there’s no clear date yet as to when they'll be rolled out globally.
