I was invited by Studio 925 in Quezon City to try out Basic Silversmithing. At first, it was kind of daunting especially when I was sent the guidelines ("requires strong upper body strength"). What did I get myself into? But once I met Janina and Pat of Wear Soulflower, I was immediately at ease. I thought, this is a great way to spend my holiday.
In case you missed all the fun on Snapchat that afternoon we turned that silver sheet into a customized hammered ring, hit play to see the process!
If you're scared that you're totally clueless about it, don't worry. I've never handled a blow torch in my life nor have I used a sanding machine. But Janina (she'll be teaching the class) is very patient and will guide you through the whole process. She'll even help you out when you can't figure out how to get rid of the nicks inside your ring. (Read: That's what happened to me. :P)
When you sign up for a class, you'll get to learn the different techniques it takes to make a hammered silver ring. And the best part about the workshop is it's one-on-one, which means you can ask as many questions as you want without getting shy! The class will set you back P4000, but you'll take home a silver ring plus basic silversmith skills. We think it's absolutely worth it. Plus, how cool would it be to say, "I made this ring"?
