Could you imagine that we’re only halfway through the quarantine? Grabe, parang isang taon na ang lumipas. *sigh* As we stay at home to protect ourselves and others from COVID-19, most of our favorite establishments also paused their operations indefinitely during the ECQ. Understandable, because it is for the greater good. Still, we couldn’t help but miss the things we used to just take for granted before… from milk tea, samgyupsal, to everyone’s favorite ball of orange goodness—the choco butternut. (Although if you live in BGC Taguig, Makati, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Pasig, and Quezon City, the good news is Dunkin' Donuts still delivers from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every Monday to Sunday!)
TYG for generous people online who share their blessings. This one Facebook user posted her own DIY recipe for choco butternut and the ingredients she used to make it only cost P112.
According to the post, you can make your own version of choco butternut using packed chocolate baked goods you can buy from the supermarket. In this case, the OP used Fudgee Barr for her recipe. Other ingredients include butter or margarine, orange food coloring powder, cocoa powder, sugar, all-purpose flour, and evaporated milk. If you can’t find the orange food coloring powder in the nearest supermarket, the OP suggested using crushed graham instead.
To make it, crush all the baked chocolate bar or cupcake of choice and then roll it up in a ball. For the glazing, mix the cocoa powder, sugar, and evaporated milk. For the coating, pour the all-purpose flour, melted butter, orange food coloring, and sugar in a pan under low-heat, and then mix them all together. And there you have it—your cravings are solved.
