Known for being one of the most prestigious international schools in the Philippines, Brent International School Manila is a coeducational day school providing a Western-style curriculum. While it only admits students until the secondary level of education, it is known for offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), an internationally recognized preparatory curriculum designed for the last two years in high school. Think of it as their Senior High School program, but you can choose which subjects to take instead of following a specific curriculum!

Before you decide to apply to Brent, here are some things you should know about the school:

History of Brent International School

Brent International School was founded in Baguio in 1909 by Charles Henry Brent, the  Missionary Bishop to the Philippines for the Protestant Episcopal Church of United States. In 1986, Brent received its IBDP authorization from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and has since then produced graduates who  were offered admission to renowned universities both locally and abroad.

To this day, Brent Baguio serves as the only Brent campus that has boarding facilities. The other two campuses are day schools only, namely Brent Subic and the current main campus, Brent International School Manila, located in Biñan, Laguna.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program

The IBDP is designed to cater to students aged 16 to 19 as a preparatory program for university and life beyond. Generally, the program requires students to study six subjects and a program core throughout those two years. One subject will be chosen from each of the 5 IB subject groupings: Studies in Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Experimental Sciences, and Mathematics. The sixth subject, The Arts, is geared towards engaging its students with the arts. You may opt out of this sixth subject but you will be required to take up additional or Higher Level courses from the first five IB subject groupings.

Obtaining a full IB Diploma will require you to take three to four of those subjects at Higher Level (240 hours over the two years), while the remaining subjects can be taken in the Standard Level (150 Hours over the two years). Additionally, you will be required to submit an in-depth research paper and render participation hours in its CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) program.
