Technology has always played an important role in society, but the COVID-19 pandemic significantly accelerated society’s shift towards digitization. As the technology industry grew rapidly these past few months, job opportunities in the field consequently increased as well. Many students nowadays take up a Computer Science course with the goal of becoming data analysts, UX designers, web developers, and software engineers. Although less common, graduates of this course may also become nanotechnologists, network engineers, cybersecurity managers, and AI researchers. But regardless of what path you take in the future, a degree in Computer Science is definitely a highly competitive asset to have in the local job market. 

1. University of the Philippines

Currently ranked as the fifth best university in Southeast Asia, the University of the Philippines is undeniably among the country’s most prestigious colleges. Although nearly all courses in UP are worth noting, their Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program produces well-rounded and adaptable professionals amidst an ever-changing technological landscape. Their newly-revised curriculum is described to be “fundamentals-driven,” which means that students’ knowledge about technology will be improved through hands-on laboratory classes and foundational skill-building. Consequently, classes under this undergraduate program zero in on operating systems, software engineering, computer programming, and data science.

2. University of Santo Tomas

The oldest university in Asia may be best known for their stellar medical courses, but their College of Information and Computing Sciences has actually gained a Level II accreditation from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU). In addition, the Computer Science Department has also been recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a Center of Development. With this, UST’s four-year Computer Science program trains students to produce and design software components, complex algorithms, and other computing developments. In fact, This department houses a rigorous Computer Science program that equips students with practical and theoretical knowledge about computer networks and software systems. Ateneo also provides students with top-tier campus facilities such as a campus-wide wireless Internet access and the latest programs of top software companies. In fact, the university even houses the Ateneo MediXserve Blockchain Education and Research Laboratory, the first-ever university-based blockchain research laboratory in the country.

4. Mapua University

Recognized as the country’s premier engineering and technological school since 1925, Mapua University is another popular choice among aspiring software engineers. Their five-year Computer Science undergraduate curriculum has been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, the Philippine Information and Computing Accreditation Board, and the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA). In line with this, Mapua graduates are highly skilled in analyzing computing problems, designing effective algorithms, and applying computer science theory to technical solutions.

5. AMA University

AMA University was founded in 1980 as a pioneer educational institution with a strong focus in Information Technology. Currently, the university’s College of Computer Studies offers four reputable Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, and Cybersecurity. Most notably, the university’s Computer Science and Information Technology programs have attained a Level IV PACUCOA accreditation, while the Cybersecurity degree is the first of its kind in the country.

6. Far Eastern University

Out of the 24 undergraduate programs that FEU offers, their Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Specialization in Software Engineering remains to be one of their best courses. This is in part thanks to their Institute of Technology’s state-of-the-art facilities, which includes a MAC Laboratory, two Image Processing Laboratories, and three Network Laboratories. With these laboratories, students will receive thorough and hands-on training in software development and data analytics.

7. Adamson University

Besides being regarded as the ninth best school in Metro Manila, Adamson University was also included in the top 700 schools of the QS Asia University Ranking this year. Their Computer Science program will provide aspiring tech professionals with all the skills they need to excel in the industry, from software systems like networking and telecommunications to hardware systems like robotics and computer theory.
