6 of the Best Art Schools in the Philippines

The college application season is upon us once again! Although artistic skills might be inherent, there are numerous ways to further hone and develop these skills, one of which is by pursuing art on a technical field. If you’re thinking of pursuing an undergraduate degree in an art-related course, you might be thinking that the options seem scarce, but no need to worry—we got you! To help you out in your decision process, we laid out a short list of schools that have art-related programs so you can consider all your options: 

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB)

The College of Saint Benilde is known for its School of Design and Arts which offers a variety of specialized art and design programs to meet the demands of the information-driven world. These programs aim to equip students with visual vocabulary, conceptualization, as well as creation skills to aid them in their artistic processes. The school’s programs range from arts management, dance, music production, production design, all the way to fashion design and merchandising, interior design, and theater arts. In fact, Megan Young, Elisse Joson, and Rajo Laurel, are some of the notable alumni of the school. SoFA Design Institute

Founded in 2007, the SoFA Design Institute is the Philippines’ first specialized design college which is dedicated to the creative learner as they integrate a design-focus approach to education. Their main undergraduate programs are Fashion Design and Marketing and Interior Design, but they also offer certificate programs, short courses, and workshops. This is the perfect school for you if you’re considering taking up a career in the fashion industry or the interior design world. Fun fact: local OPM artist Reese Lansangan is an alumna of this school!

Meridian International (MINT) College

Although it also offers degree programs in business and technology, MINT College is known for its art programs, especially since one of the college’s core beliefs is valuing creativity and innovation. With the mission to provide its students with a collaborative and innovative environment, the school offers degree programs that aims to enhance their students’ learning experience. Some degree programs include Multimedia, Performing Arts, Fashion Management, and Film & Video. Gabbi Garcia, Clara Benin, and Syd Hartha are alumni of this college! 

CIIT College of Arts and Technology

With the vision to lead the way towards a globally competitive Philippines, the CIIT College of Arts and Technology has crafted programs with the goal to put its students in the pathway to career success. Aside from computer science related courses, the college also boasts of a Multimedia Arts program where students can specialize in either Animation, Film and Video Production, or Graphic Design. If you are interested in pursuing a career in multimedia, then this is definitely a college that you can consider when assessing your options! 

University of the Philippines Diliman-Fine Arts

It’s no secret that the University of the Philippines is one of the most prestigious universities in the Philippines, but its College of Fine Arts perhaps adds to its prestige. The college is the oldest arts and design educational institution in the country since its inception back in 1908. So far, the institution has produced ten National Artists for Visual Arts, including renowned Filipino artist Fernando Amorsolo. The college offers degree programs that aim to hone students’ technical skills such as Painting and Sculpture, while it also offers a more theoretical approach to art through its programs in Art Education and Art History. Last but not least, the college also boasts of programs in Visual Communication and Industrial Design, which makes use of both theory and practice.
