PSA: You Have to Update to a New iOS Version Again to Avoid Security Attacks

Time to update your devices again.

Apple users would know that iOS 14.5 just dropped very recently, and it includes a very essential securty feature. But it seems Apple has made some upgrades to the version, and for good reason.

The Verge reports that the update is a solution to the "arbitrary code execution exploitation of WebKit," aka a browser engine developed by the company utilized in the Safari browser. According to the security update posted on May 3, Apple knows of a report regarding the active exploitation of the holes in the previous iOS version and this new iOS version patches up the bugs that have been taken advantage of. A similar update is also available for other Apple devices: iPadOS 14.5.1, macOS 11.3.1, and watchOS 7.4.1. 

If you own any of the following devices, then you should update to iOS 14.5.1 ASAP: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation).

To update your device, head to Settings > General > Software Update. To avoid losing important documents and data on your device, it is recommended that you back up your data first before updating.

In January 2021, Apple encountered a similar issue and warned users to update their iOS versions as well after catching security breaches.
