The best thing about being a student is that you get student discounts. It's common knowledge that students get discounts when they use stuff like public utility vehicles (Read: buses, jeepneys, and trains); learning resources such as Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud; and even online entertainment services, namely Spotify—but did you know there are also student discounts for electronic gadgets?
The student discount for electronic gadgets isn't offered in all stores and brands. Apple is one of the few that offers a student discount for their laptops and tablets. Spoiler alert: The discount is huge.

How to apply for K-12 student Apple discount:
If you've ever bought an Apple product from the official website, the "For Education" section is seen at the footer of the website. There's a clickable "Shop for University" right below it which leads to Apple's K-12 store where college students, their parents, teachers, faculty, and staff can purchase a Mac or an iPad with a student discount.

Once all items are in the shopping cart, you can then check out. Payments are made in full using a credit card or debit card (i.e. Visa, Mastercard, and AMEX). No installments and it is not possible to pay for it in Switch stores—which sell Apple products at a higher price point than the website.
Once payments are made, an e-mail will be sent to the recipient from Apple about determining their eligibility for Education Store pricing.
The requirements for a student Apple discount
For students and for those who are purchasing on behalf of a student, the requirements are the following:
- An up-to-date Admission Letter
- Proof of enrollment from the institution
- Front and back of current Student ID
For faculty or staff member of a school or university, the requirements are the following:
- Front and back of current Staff ID
- Employment Letter
The documents, of not more than 20 megabytes, are to be sent to rpac_edu_ph@apple.com. A separate e-mail containing the words, "You're approved for education pricing" will be sent once the documents sent are assessed and approved.

Based on our own experience, an electric invoice is sent five days after the approval of the educational store pricing. Apple has an online tracker which lets you know where the parcel is and when is the estimated date of arrival.
Warning! Student Apple Discount is not recommended for urgent needs
Unlike your Shopee and Lazada finds, the discounted Apple products will not arrive at your doorstep in one week's time. The safest estimate is that the recipient receives the parcel at least half a month after placing an order.
The eligibility approval and invoice issuance take time. On top of that, purchases made via the Apple K-12 shop are shipped from Singapore.
