Apple users, it's time yet again to update your operating systems to its latest version if you want to avoid any risks involving a highly sophisticated spyware that can access your device's cameras and microphones unauthorized.

News reports on September 14 warn of a software called Pegasus. According to a report on Cnet, the zero-click spyware can be installed on a device remotely, which means that device owners don't even need to accidentally click on random links or install sketchy apps for the software to find its way into their phones. When a device is infected, the software can access messages, contacts, emails, photos, videos, and even covertly tap into and record from the device's cameras and microphones. Citizen Lab also discovered that the software exploits vulnerabilities in the iMessage app of Apple devices.

To address the threat, Apple issued a new update in the form of iOS 14.8 to put a block in the security loophole. Apple's security update regarding iOS 14.8 warns that "processing a maliciously crafted PDF may lead to arbitrary code execution." The security update is available and recommended for the following devices: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation). A similar update has also been made available for other Apple devices including Apple Watch Series 3 and later, as well as Mac devices using macOS Catalina and Big Sur.
