Aside from the fact that Abbey Sy is ridiculously creative and crazy-talented, she is also a prolific artist who doesn't seem to run out of lettering ideas. She always has something artistic to share with her followers whether through her blog or social media posts. Heck, even her Instagram stories are beautifully hand-lettered!

While we couldn't bring her to spill her secret to her success, Abbey did share some tips on finding and filtering lettering ideas in her new book, Hand Lettering A to Z: A World of Creative Ideas for Drawing and Designing Alphabets.

On finding inspiration.

"Inspiration is everywhere; it's your job to find it. Once you start looking, you'll find inspiration in the most unlikely places: typography on a package of soap, a bus ticket, or an old street sign in your town."

On looking for ideas.

"Creative ideas that seem to appear out of nowhere also disappear just as quickly if you don't jot them down. Keep a notebook with you everywhere you go. Another option is to keep a wall-mounted corkboard in your work space, where you can pin up snippets of inspiration and samples of colors and styles."

On discovering your style.

"Being aware of how you see things and how you filter them according to your taste will eventually help you discover your style."

Read more tips from Abbey and other guest artists whom she invited to write and share their personal preferences in the book.

Hand Lettering A to Z: A World of Creative Ideas for Drawing and Designing Alphabets is exclusively available at National Book Store for P599.
