Dear SpongeBob: #CoronisNotBikiniBottom
We were all excited at the possibility of a Nickelodeon underwater theme park in the Philippines, because...who wouldn't be? We love Nickelodeon—we all grew up watching shows from Nick!
But then we found out that the underwater theme park is going to be built in a 400-hectare (1,000-acre) area in Coron, and we initially thought, what a crazy idea. No one in their right mind would do such a thing to a very beautiful place.
But we came to our senses and realized that your folks at Nick weren't kidding the slightest bit. And they seemed to have made up their minds when they published a press release on their website.
Which made us think about the world-famous marine ecosystem in Coron and the possibility of it getting ruined, just so an underwater theme park could be built.
And the thought of big corporations and businesses earning ridiculous amounts of money with the possibility of hurting the environment made us really angry.
Especially at the people from our country who may have allowed this to happen, which all the more pains us. Thank goodness for Environment Secretary Gina Lopez who thinks otherwise!
We love you, but we won't allow to let this happen. Not on our watch.
To living in a pineapple under the sea (on TV) and keeping the fishes safe and free,
P.S. If you really, truly care about Coron and the protection of the ocean, sign this petition. (Same goes for you, Candy Girls!)
