5 Tips For Surviving An All Nighter
There are just some days when 24 hours aren't enough to accomplish everything on your academic to-do list. When staying up until daybreak is the only option; and when even groaning at the idea of it can't buy you more time, an all-nighter is inevitable. We absolutely get you. And, yes, it is indeed possible to survive zombie mode. Here's how:
Call up your BFFs. Think of it as a "slumber party". Only you're not braiding each other's hair or having mani pedis and you won't be sleeping. Trade those up with readings, highlighters and sticky notes. It's up to you to get creative with your best buds when going on study mode together.
Have loads of food. Snack smart on brain power grub. Don't cross out your chips and sweets just yet.
It's all about having a balanced intake (and by staying awake, yes, we need our chocolates). Add in the beverage of your choice while you're at it, plus a few glasses of water and, viola, you're good to go.
Play music. It might not be best to work late in an environment so quiet you can only hear the scratching of pens on paper. You'll feel the yawn coming on right away. So plug on those earphones or choose the loudspeaker option. Read on as you listen to the tunes of Alesso, Katy Perry, Mariah Carrey, or Bastille. Hey, whatever rocks your boat. Just make sure the study session doesn't turn into a sing off.
Take breaks. Trust us, your brain can't absorb every single thing uninterrupted. It's best to have a 3-5 minute breather or even longer, whatever it is that suits your pace. Take a walk or check up on social media. Let your brain unconsciously sort through the clutter. A rested mind can do wonders.
Make sure to have enough time to sleep. Even an all-nighter expert has to agree, we can't simply skip on sleep. Catch a few hours of Zs before you go all out once again on the daily grind.
Word of advice: handle all-nighters with care. Do only if you really must. It's definitely not wise to do it on a regular basis. So, choose your all-nighter battles wisely.
