Just last weekend, National Bookstore brought New York Times Best-selling authors Melissa de la Cruz, Alyson Nöel, and Margaret Stohl to the Philippines for book signing events.

Filipino-American Melissa de la Cruz is the author of the Blue Blood series, a popular vampire novel which has three million copies in print. Her latest novel Frozen is the first book in the Heart of Dread series, co-authored by her husband Michael Johnston.

Alyson Nöel is the bestselling author of the Immortals series and its spinoff the Riley Bloom series. Her books have been translated into 37 languages and sold in over 50 countries with over seven million copies in print.

Margaret Stohl is the co-author of the Beautiful Creatures series with Kami Garcia. It was named as Amazon’s #1 Teen Book of 2009, and its movie adaptation was released by Warner Bros. earlier this year.

Here are a few things they shared during an exclusive—and laid-back—interview with Candy:

What are you currently working on? Can you tell us something about that?

Margaret Stohl: I have a sequel called Idols and I have, as of today, a new spinoff series with Beautiful Creatures. An eBook novella will come out in December and the actual book Dangerous Creatures comes out in May.

Melissa de la Cruz: We (with husband, Michael Johnston) are writing Frozen 2, and I'm working on a draft of a new series called The Ring and The Crown, so that's coming out on April, which is a new fantasy series with Disney.

Alyson Nöel:  I just finished the final book in my Soul Seekers series called Horizon. It will be out on November this year, and I am about to begin a new project, a brand new series, but it's still top secret.

What is the most challenging thing about being a writer?

Margaret Stohl: Getting it done, because you can only hold things for so long.

Melissa de la Cruz: The daily discipline, because everyday you have to write.

Alyson Nöel: Finding the balance between writing life and personal life.

Do you have a favorite place to write in?

Margaret Stohl: My bed, my house. [While on] travel. I also visit this monastery in Rome when I’m troubled.

Melissa de la Cruz: I can work anywhere, I work in my office at home, and I also love to visit Marjie (Margaret Stohl)'s home.

Alyson Nöel: A home office with artwork on the wall, and with headphones!

If you were not a writer, what would you be?

Margaret Stohl: I'd be doing a fun job. Like elephant rescue.

Melissa de la Cruz: Miserable.

Alyson Nöel: A painter. I love art.

What advice can you give to budding writers?

Margaret Stohl: Learn how to finish. Just do it.

Melissa de la Cruz: Read a lot. You have to read a lot of books to write them.

Alyson Nöel: Don't be afraid of making mistakes.

The events are made possible in partnership with Raffles Makati, The Podium, Ayala Center Cebu and Crossings Department Store.
