Remember when everyone talked about ghosting last year? The trend that hit the dating world in 2016, which involved suddenly disappearing from your significant other's life without any warning because they didn't want to be involved with the person anymore? Breadcrumbing, as defined by Urban Dictionary, "the act of sending out flirtatious, but non-committal text messages (i.e. 'breadcrumbs') to members of the opposite sex in order to lure a sexual partner without expending much effort." But there's also another form of breadcrumbing that people do wherein they tease (leave 'breadcrumbs'!) someone even if they're not interested in being in a relationship with them, just so they can remain relevant in the other person's life. How painful!

So why do people do this? Well, we are territorial by nature that even when the person has already decided to move on from what we used to have from them, we continue to see them as "ours" because we think they're our property. We lure them into us so we can something from them without being in a relationship with them. Which is wrong.

When people decide to move on, let them. No matter how much it will break you. No matter how painful it may be, the reason why they want to leave doesn't have something to do with you. It's a choice they're making to be better people, to love themselves better. So just let them. Wouldn't you want others to do the same for you, too, if you get to that point?
