The Vice President of the Philippines Has Advice For Young Girls

In a speech delivered by her daughter Aika Robredo for World Population Day yesterday, Vice President Leni Robredo had this important message for young girls everywhere.
There is a time and place for romantic love. Finding your truest love is one of the most important aspects of a life well-lived. But it is important to find yourself first, before you give yourself to somebody else.
She continues to stress the importance of a supportive partner, someone who will encourage you to be your best self.
And when you do, your SO (significant other) must love you enough to give you space to help you keep on redefining yourself and letting you reach your truest potential.
Remember to put yourself first—explore your interests, work on your weaknesses, play up your strengths, and discover your potential. You aren't just someone's girlfriend or someone's daughter or someone's partner. You are your own person who deserves to make your own choices, your own decisions, and live your life the way you want to. A faithful and loyal partner will understand and support you and help you be the best version of yourself.
This year's World Population Day's theme is focused on standing up for teenage girls' rights. Leaders and communities are encourage to focus on the rights of young women "who are poor, out of school, exploited, or subjected to harmful traditional practices," the United Nations said.Â
