It happened at my friend’s surprise birthday party. My whole barkada was going to be there including her–the weird, bubbly girl I met the year before. I always thought she was cute and friendly, and I enjoyed her company. She was also so nice that people liked being around her. Although the times I spent with her were always fun, I just saw her as a friend.
The surprise part of the party was a success. My friend had no idea about it and she was really surpised (which isn’t always the case because someone usually manages to slip!). After all the hugs, kisses, and happy birthdays, things finally settled down enough for us to start eating. Eventually, people started drifting off into small groups having their own conversations. On a whim, I turned to her and asked her to slow dance with me.
“But there’s no music,” she said.
“That’s better,” I replied. “That way, we won’t dance off beat.”
