How to Move On from the One That Got Away
You can blame it on social media or your own heart for making it a big deal, but getting over The One That Got Away isn't easy. There are even some who claim that it's just not possible! That we don't agree with. We believe that your mind is as powerful as your heart, so we've gathered a few tips and tricks you can do to get over that one person who got away right here.
- Embrace what happened between the two of you.
First of all, before you start moving forward, accept what happened between the two of you. It may be a formal breakup or you just drifted apart—however things may have ended, allow yourself time to process everything. Cry and burn all the things that remind you of him if you have to, point is you have allow yourself to grieve over what happened.
- Stop living in the past.
We know it's tempting to re-read your old conversations with him, keep those photos and videos you have of him, or stay in bed and reminisce all your moments together. But you have to face the fact, as well, that you have to stop doing that at one point in time. Memories are good but if it's already doing more harm than good to your heart condition, you have to let them go—no matter how hard that may be.
- Start doing things for yourself.
Here's the thing about The One That Got Away: You will always keep him in mind in whatever you do, say, and feel. A part of you still hopes that your paths will cross someday. A part of you thinks that whatever happens to you would've been different if only destiny or fate allowed the two of you to be together. A part of you still waits for him.
But know that one day, you have to stop and do things because you want to and you need to. It's not being selfish. It's called living.
- Be patient with yourself.
No one really knows how long it will take for one person to move on from The One That Got Away, but know that it is possible. You will still look back at what you had, at him on some days and there's nothing wrong with that. It's human nature to grieve over what we lost. But whenever moments like that come, force yourself to stand up and walk again. In the words of Selena Gomez, "If you're broken, you don't have to stay broken." You can do it, Candy Girls, you just have to be patient with yourself.
