It's been etched in our heads from way, way back that when guys like a girl, they tend to tease her and even make fun of her. But somehow, we've always wondered if this rings true at all times. This week, we're answering one Candy reader's similar question sent to us via Facebook.
From Marina Cabero: Do guys insult girls when they like them?
We asked a little help from Candy Cutie Rammy Bitong to give us some thoughts about this matter. Hope this helps, Candy Girls!
Dear Marina,
Guys tease and make fun of girls they like because they want to be noticed.
Contrary to popular belief, guys always seek attention from girls—especially the ones they like. Guys try to hide the fact that they like the girl by teasing her. In a way, it's still flirting. It's sort of a guy's way of checking how close he is to a certain someone. For example, teasing a girl about her pimple or any flaw. If the girl responds carelessly, then he's in a good position. But if the girl gets shy and turns her back on him, then he knows that he's not on that level yet.
In a way, I guess, it has something to do with curiosity. Guys want to see how girls react to certain things to get to know them better. Guys want to know what type of humor the girl is into.
I used to do this, too. When I really liked a girl, I would tease her. I didn't want to get into deep conversations right away because that might creep her out. When she starts getting really comfortable with me, that's when we talk about the serious stuff.
I think the most important thing about "teasing" is knowing your limits. Try to find out as much as you can about the girl before you start teasing her. You'll never know, the things you say just might be offensive to her. Know when to stop. When guys notice that girls aren't laughing anymore, they should just stop.
In conclusion, yeah all guys have teased a girl at least once in their life. It's either they didn't know what else to do or they simply enjoyed doing it.
