We have said this a million times already: Long distance relationships are hard. Being in one requires a huge amount of patience and understanding, especially because you don't see each other as often as you want to. To help you handle your own long distance relationship, we've asked those who are in it to give you some advice. Hear it from them below:

  1. Update each other even about the little things.

"I'm lucky my boyfriend and I are still within the same timezone despite being separated by distance. We deal with it by calling and texting each other every day. It's not something we planned, but something that just came naturally. We make time for each other, no matter how busy we both are. Big or small, we update each other about pretty much everything. Actually, being busy helps with coping with the distance. At least I have something to do on nights that should have been our date night.

"Though the distance terrified me at first, I actually thought it made our relationship stronger. Since we make sure to talk to each other every day, through phone or chat, it made us better listeners. Of course, having him nearer, much nearer, will be tons better, but right now we stay sane by still talking every day." —Jane (Metro Manila-CDO, 7 years)

  1. Know how to fight well.

"Find a way to resolve fights and agree on how to go about it, because it's easy to misinterpret each other since you can't see each other face to face." —Alyssa (Metro Manila-US, 8 years)

  1. Plan your visits.

"During holidays or long breaks, we make plans to spend a few days—just the two of us. It's a good time for catching up and spending time with each other after a few months. Planning helps because you can't expect the other person to drop everythingjust because you're there." —Mitch (Gen. Santos City-Metro Manila, 1 year)

  1. But don't forget to surprise them, too.

"To survive the distance and the days when we can't see each other, we make plans of what we'll do when we see each other again. But in between, he also makes surprise visits." —Jen (Cebu-Metro Manila, 10 months)

  1. No matter how hard it may be, trust each other.

"I just trust the person and believe that everything will work out. That's the most important thing when you're apart: Trust." —April (UAE-South Cotabato, 1 year)
