Celebrity Cuties 2006

When BuzzFeed came out with this article describing what life was like in 2006 (10 years ago!) and we saw a few of Candy's pages on the list, we decided to revisit our old issues and show you more of that decade—the guys we've had a crush on at that time, for example. We searched through the pages of our 2006 issues and found the 13 local celebrities (and a few hilarious things, but that's for another story, hehe!) we were crushing on back then.

  1. John Lloyd Cruz

    September 2006, Candy Cuties

One of this generation's best actors was a Candy Cutie! JLC, who starred in movies like Close To You, One More Chance, and the critically-acclaimed Honor Thy Father, was one of 2006's celebrity cuties.

  2. Sam Milby

Just like his Close To You co-star John Lloyd, Sam was also one of 2006's celebrity cuties. Years after, he's established his name as one of this generation's best leading men, appearing in movies and TV shows like Four Sisters and a Wedding, Doble Kara, and Prenup.

  3. Paulo Avelino

Fresh from his Starstruck Season 4 stint, we featured Paulo as one of 2006's new cuties. He then went on to pursue his passion for acting. His more recent projects include the movies Sana Dati and Heneral Luna, and the TV show On the Wings of Love.

  4. Justin Quirino

    August 2006, Boy Talk

Justin is one of our favorite Candy Cuties. He appeared on our pages, constantly giving us a sneak peek at guys' opinions on certain things. Now, Justin is busy modeling or working as a DJ for 99.5 Play FM.

  5. Mong Alcaraz

ICYDK, Pinoy bands were a huge thing in 2006, which was how we discovered Mong, Chicosci and Sandwich's guitarist. These days, he's still busy making music and being a husband and a dad to daughter Mira.

Sam was also one of our favorite Candy Cuties. Aside from constantly gracing our pages, he also gave us a tour of his home and let us in on what he does on a daily basis back then. Today, Sam still sings and acts. His album Infinite is already out, and he played Jasmine Curtis's alternate for the play #NoFilter last year.

  7. Gerald Anderson

    September 2006, On the Cover

Before James Reid, we had Pinoy Big Brother housemate Gerald making girls go crazy during that year. This guy from General Santos City was our main man for the Candy Cuties issue that year. These days, Gerald shows his acting chops on TV and in movies. He starred in projects like Budoy, Nathaniel, On the Job, and most recently, in Everyday I Love You.

  8. Chino Lui Pio

    Candy's sitch model, 2006

When Chino was just starting out in the biz, we featured him on our pages alongside his brother Champ. We also got him to pose with our models for situational images, which accompanied most of our articles that year. Today, Chino is busy VJ-ing for MYX.

  9. Mark Herras

    March 2006, Locker Room

The first Starstruck male survivor was another constant on our pages that year. We asked him questions about his favorites and about guys and relationships. At present, Mark is busy working on projects with GMA and taking care of his daughter Ada.

  10. Yael Yuzon

    May 2006, Boy Panel

The Spongecola vocalist was one of our boy panelists back in 2006. Yael gave us practical relationship and life tips, and was also game to take on challenges for the Candy Girls.

  11. Matteo Guidicelli

    July 2006, Anything Goes

Back then, it was still a bit difficult to get photos of our favorite celebrities, which is why Candy Girls asked for wallet-sized photos in our section Anything Goes. Matteo was just starting out in the biz that year and he was still more known as a racer back then. This year, he is set to star on Dolce Amore with Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil.

  12. Japoy Lizardo

August 2006, Council of Cool mini-mag

In 2006, we were also crazy about taekwondo star Japoy. The members of that year's Candy Council of Cool got to interview him for their mini-mag. Just last year, Japoy quit from the Philippine team after the return of his old leg injury.

  13. Frank Magalona

Good genes definitely run in the Magalona family. Frank, Elmo and Arkin's older bro, was also a Candy Cutie. In this feature, we talked to him about dating and relationships. We recently got to watch Frank show his acting chops on GMA's Once Upon a Kiss and Marimar.
