In life, we always tend to face all forms of discouragement every day. It might be in the form of someone telling us directly or it could also come in the form of your own thoughts, telling you that you can never make it and that you can never succeed.
Ateneo volleyball player and Kojie-san DreamWhite BED Ritual ambassador Dennise Lazaro is no stranger to dealing with that. So during the Kojie-san launch, we caught up with her and asked her about how she deals with this.
"If you want to try doing something, go ahead and try it! You will have more regrets not trying than when you did. If you're really passionate about something, put your heart and sould into it and I'm sure you're really going to be successful in it. Especially if you want to work hard."
We also asked Dennise if she had personal experiences on getting discriminated as an athlete because of her gender, something that a lot of female athletes still get nowadays. She told us that she was fortunate she didn't have those.
"But I do hear of girls getting discriminated, especially in basketball, in contact sport. But there's a certain finesse in playing a sport, and remember that it's not all about force and muscle," she tells us.
Dennise also added, "When I was starting out in Ateneo, in my first few years, I really got discouraged to the point that I wanted to quit. But if there's something I want to share, it's what kept me going; it was my love for my teammates, my team, my school, and my love for the sport. And I really wanted to prove myself that kaya ko 'to kahit ano'ng mangyari. People discouraged me and told me I couldn't do it. Kung nag-give up ako noon, mas lalong mapo-prove right ko sila. I had to prove that they're wrong by keeping on going and eventually, succeed."

And we can see where Dennise is right now. She has become one of the country's best volleyball players, and is admired by many on and off court.
We will always face all forms of discouragement and discrimination, but remember, Candy Girls, that if we stop fighting for ourselves and our dreams, we'll only prove those people right. We have to keep going, fighting, and living because that's the only way we can prove to ourselves that we were meant to have our dreams.
