There's a new sculpture in UP Diliman and it's one worth seeing, Iskolar ng Bayan or not. The state university's newest work of art is yet to be formally unveiled, but it's already installed at the Villamor Hall or UP Theater. We were lucky enough to chance upon the post of Gus Cerdena on Facebook, in which he shared some details about the sculpture.
According to his post, the sculpture of the female oblation is by artist Ferdinand Cacnio, who is known for his metal sculptures. Atty. Dot Gancayco is said to be the face model of the sculpture.
"#UPLift: 'Aspiring for Honor and Excellence. UP's female Oblation. Levitating, offering, rising, heavenward. What a beauty! IT'S ABOUT TIME," he said in his post. Heck, yeah, it's about time and what a great time to be witness to this, too!
And here's a post from artist himself, who says, "it took 10 years before the big one became a reality."
Aside from Gus' and Ferdinand's posts, we also found another one from Judge Princess Bustos Ongkeko on Instagram. She shared a much smaller version of the life-size sculpture in front of the theater and captioned it with "The Female UP Oblation - A UP Law Batch 85 Project."
Just like the rest of the internet, we have nothing but positive reactions to this new artwork. We can't wait to get more details about it and we're surely taking a trip up north to witness this beaut in person. See you there?
