There's a very thin line between the okay and tacky sides of re-gifting. To help you out, we've listed a few pointers that might come in handy if ever you decide to do one this season.
When you have two (or more) of those items already.
Think duplicate curling irons, two of the same exact planners, or three identical tops. If you only need one and can think of someone who will be happy to receive it, you shouldn't feel guilty about re-gifting the item. Just make sure that the person you'll be giving the gift to isn't in the same (or close) circle with the person who gave it to you.
When you know someone else can have better use for it.
There are times when you get great gifts that just don't suit you or your style. It's okay to give them to someone else especially if you know they'll love the present, need or will use it more than you ever will.
When you're completely honest about it.
Being honest about re-gifting is cool only if the person who will be receiving the gift is someone close to you or know you well enough to not be offended by it. If you're not close with that person, either don't say it's a recycled gift or just buy something new.
At the end of the day, it's all up to you to decide if re-gifting is tacky or not. If it doesn't feel right despite the guidelines posted above, it's best to follow your instincts and don't re-gift.
