While the metro-wide quarantine has loosened up a bit compared to previous months, the COVID-19 pandemic is still a real threat, which means we should still stay at home if we can.

For students, on-ground classes won't be resuming any time soon. Currently, schools are preparing to migrate learning methods to online platforms in an attempt to adapt to the “new normal.”

One student, YouTuber Chealseah Mercene, shared what online classes would be like for her current summer term at Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in her recent vlog. She mentioned that the semester will follow a “self-paced” style of learning to put less pressure on students who can’t keep up with real-time interactions due to poor internet connection. Here are a few things to note about PUP’s online classes from Chealseah’s vlog:

Coordination is done through Facebook groups.

Prior to the first day of online schooling, a group chat was made for each class which is where most of the coordination and communication for that specific course will be done.

Orientations are executed in video form.

Chealseah shared in her vlog that their professors seem to be considerate of students who may not be able to keep up because of unstable internet connection. Instead of conference meetings and Zoom sessions, faculty members have transformed their orientation guides into pre-recorded video content which they upload on YouTube for students to view when they get the opportunity to do so.

Submission of requirements are less strict.

Again, not everyone will have the same opportunities to comply with a strict deadline when it comes to submission of requirements. The YouTuber mentioned that students will be given around one week of lead time to submit projects and other requirements. If students also find it difficult to upload heavy files online, some professors will allow them to simply take a photo of their submissions and send it directly to the professor.
