This Little Girl Reminds Us That We're Free to Make Our Own Choices
A video uploaded 5 years ago is making rounds on social media again this year. Captioned by the Facebook Page that made the post go viral (at 6.4M views and 124,302 shares as of writing) with "That awkward moment when a little girl is smarter than a lot of the world's population," the video may as well have been uploaded now because it's still relevant in the world we're living in today.
Riley, the adorable little girl in the video, makes a case for the marketing strategy that toy companies employ when selling their products. She asks with exasperation, "Why do the girls have to buy princesses? Some girls like superheroes, some girls like princesses. Some boys like superheroes, some boys like princesses. Why do all the girls have to buy pink stuff and the boys have to buy the different colored stuff?"
In the end, her father asks as if to remind her that kids can choose whichever toy they want—boys can buy pink if they want to buy pink, right? To which she answers a big, resounding yes. You got that right, Riley!
Wondering what Riley is up to now? According to the latest video uploaded on her dad's YouTube page, the impassioned little girl ran for class president late last year. Watch her campaign speech here!
