This is Why J.K. Rowling Specially Designed a Tattoo for a Fan
Today in proof that J.K. Rowling is a fantastic human being: Aside from creating the best fictional series to ever exist, J.K. granted a fan's request to hand-write a tattoo design for her. (via dolly.com.au)
This amazing occurence happened via Twitter when Kate, a big Harry Potter fan sent J.K. a tweet about her request accompanied by a pic of a long-ish note.
Her tweet said, "I wanna get 'Expecto Patronum' tattooed & it'd mean the world if it was in ur handwriting," and her note was about her self-harm struggles and how she's trying her best to put a stop to it. She also mentioned how J.K. has helped her get through all the downs in her life, and how she wants to get the spell tattooed on the wrist she usually cuts herself.
"Expecto Patronum" is of course the spell that offers protection from the Dementors, which as J.K. has admitted in the past, are metaphors for depression.
To Kate's delight, JK responded in a matter of minutes (seven, to be exact) with a picture of the handwritten spell and a special message that said, "I love that you're working to heal and protect yourself. You deserve this. I hope it helps."
As would any fan do, Kate thanked J.K. for her big heart and cried her happiness away. She also granted permission to fellow fans who also wanted to use the design for their own tatts. The following week, Kate posted a video of her new tattoo: a wand pointing to what could be her patronus and the spell written by J.K. on top of it.
Although Kate relapsed a few months after getting inked, she remains thankful to J.K. for the wonderful thing she has done, saying, "I keep them very close to my heart, I cherish them. Your words, no matter what they are, always keep me going."
Now can we all spare a few minutes of our time to acknowledge how wonderful of a person J.K. Rowling is? And another few minutes to send Kate good vibes!
